Home Brewing Kits and Home Brewing Essentials
Welcome to my website all about home brewing kits, supplies and instructions. I am a
brewer with over 13 years experience and had the pleasure of brewing in London, Paris and Lisbon. Brewing is
wonderful hobby and its history dates back to as far as ancient Egypt. There is a belief that brewing actually
discovered by accident when stored grains came into contact with moisture and fermented. The result led to grain
that when consumed led to a funny feeling that the people actually quite liked.
Home brewing kits come in many different guises and range from the basic to the much more
complex that can only be purchased from specialized stores or online resource. The simplest form of home brewing
kit can be easy as adding water to a bag that is pre-mixed with ingredients that once hydrated will begin to
ferment after a short period.
These simple kits are fine for people just looking to make some simple beer but the brew
produced will be fairly ordinary and lack any real body. If you are looking to brew more complex beer you need be
willing to make a slight out lay to really to get a beer that is the equal if not surpasses the quality of the
craft beer on draft at your local bar or pub.
If you are looking for decent home brewing kit’s the there a certain pieces of equipment
that you need to make sure is included. Here is a list of essential equipment:-
A large fermentor (at least 5 gallons)
A large glass carboy (at least 4 gallons)
A siphon hose (at least 4 foot)
Racking cane and clip
Bottle filler
Bench capper
Caps
Wort chiller (optional can use a fridge or cold storage)
Sanitizer
Cleaner
Thermometer
Hydrometer with test jar
Carboy brush
Bottle brush
Boil proof spoon
Beer thief
The equipment above will get you started and make sure that you can produce good beer. You
can maybe get away without buying some of the equipment above but if you are serious about brewing good beer then
you can’t really cut corners.
Anybody looking into home brewing kits will also need to buy a brewing kettle. You don’t
need to buy a dedicated kettle from a home brewing supply shop as long as you have a cooking pot at home big
enough. I would suggest one that can hold at least 7.5 gallons of liquid (remember it needs to boil
vigorously).
Home brewing kits can allow you to make good beer and you can buy packages that supply you with the essential
equipment to get you started. The as you get more experience and want to experiment then you can start to add more
specialized equipment to you inventory.
You can even look into kegging equipment or purchasing a mash tun and malt mill to make
all grain brews. If you produce all grain brews then you will produce better quality beer and can really experiment
with different ingredients. Speaking of ingredients you can even start to experiment with using orange peel,
cardamom, chilli or so much more.
